Custom Training & Drills

Safety equipment is expensive. Don’t risk yours on training, we can bring a huge supply of training equipment, including Liferaft, survival suits, dry suits, lifejackets, PFDs, Rescue nets, rescue slings, fire extinguishers and enclosed fire pans.

After we design your custom training plan, we will teach you and your crew how to conduct effective drills. We can also help design a rotating schedule of scenarios to work with.

Crew drills and training are incredibly important, both for the safety of your vessel and workers and for legal liability.  It is the responsibility of the Owner and Master to train and drill the crew. In the event of an emergency, if things don’t go well, you could be held responsible.

We can help you design practical, effective, and realistic drills for you and your crew. All our staff are Transport Canada certified marine safety instructors, and all have extensive experience in the marine industry.

Safety Equipment – review, supply and updating

Safety Equipment wears out, goes past its expiry date, gets replaced according to new regulatory requirements and evolves as technology improves.

This is an easy area to overlook but makes a difference to insurers, inspectors and your crews. You don’t want to discover mid investigation that your Safety Equipment was substandard or your vessels negligently equipped.

Small Vessel Compliance Program & Inspection Preparation

Want to start a boating business?

Want to start offering charters with your vessel?

There is a lot you will need to get your boat ready to enter commercial service. The liability and legal requirements are huge. We can teach you to understand the legislation and show you how to upgrade your boat.  We can be there every step of the way so you can quickly and safely enter the marine industry.

Understanding Transport Canada regulations is not easy or fast. Let us help.  Our consultants have years of experience in the maritime industry solving these issues. We can save you time, money and stress by helping you prepare your vessel long before TC comes on board.

Radio, AIS & Digital Equipment – install, testing and updating

The radios on your boats may be old and worn, you may be able to receive but other boats and the coast guard struggle to hear your transmissions. Maybe your radios aren’t DSC capable, maybe you still don’t have a functional and the correct class of AIS installed on your vessel. Maybe it’s as simple as you have a Radio Inspection coming up and you want to be sure your systems will pass.

From repairing, through upgrading, sourcing and installing, to simple testing, we can help take care of this for you.

Safety Management System – review, creation and updating

Following the IMO’s adoption of the ISM Code in 1993 regulators and insurance companies have been ever more keen on having Maritime Companies demonstrate their full Safety Management Systems. The reality is that very few maritime companies in Canada have a functional SMS.

Creating an SMS is time-consuming the first time and becomes even easier as you create successive SMS for a range of companies and operations. We’d be happy to lend a hand and create you a compliant and functional SMS.

Compass Swinging and creating a new Deviation Card

Is there a Deviation Card on all of your vessels? Has it been updated in the past 10 years? When was the last time the equipment on your vessel was changed or moved? When was the last time you came out of the water for the shipyard?

All of these will affect the magnetic fields of your vessel and most of the boats we see on the coast have non-functional deviation cards. This is relatively easy to fix and takes very little time. Let us help you get this taken care of.

Preparing for Inspections – TC, “CSI”, and Delegated Statutory Inspection Program organizations

A range of new requirements pop up between inspections, Regulations change, TC requirements (published and unpublished) change, the crew you relied on last time may not be available, equipment may have failed and been difficult to source replacements for.

All of these have the potential to paint your vessels and company in a bad light with the Inspectors and the Regulators. The same people will be involved in judging your operational competence when something goes wrong in the future.

Vessel inspections should always run smoothly and quickly. The key to this is preparation and knowing what the inspectors want before they ask for it. We are involved in these inspections every year for multiple vessels in a range of companies, and that gives us a unique advantage that we can pass on to you.

Vessel Importation

Importing vessels from the US, China, Europe and the rest of the world is a detailed and complex undertaking. There are savings to be made in accessing these larger international markets but to keep those savings it is important to navigate the regulatory, customs and paperwork hazards efficiently and quickly.

Let us pilot you through the process and help keep the importation as straightforward as it can be.
