Bluewater Adventures – All Positions Needed!
Bluewater Adventures is a well-established, small eco-tourism company that offers multi-day wildlife/nature trips onboard one of our motor-sailors around the central and northern coast of British Columbia in Haida Gwaii, Great Bear Rainforest, Khutzeymateen, Northern Vancouver Island and Southeast Alaska. Selected by National Geographic and one of the World’s Best 50 Tours.
Our trips take place onboard one of our three motor-sailors – the Island Solitude, Island Odyssey, and Island Roamer – which are 85 ft and 68 ft in length respectively. A typical trip will have 12 guests and a 4-person crew made up of a Captain, Mate, Cook, and Naturalist. The 2022 Tour Season is expected to be a very full one and we will be posting for various positions on our team for the coming 2022 season! We will be looking for everyone: captains, crew, cooks, and school program naturalists.
Crew members should have experience on the BC coast, strong people skills, be team players, and very safety conscious.
Positions:
- Transport Canada – Master Limited 60 ton or Higher
- Wilderness First Aid 20 hour or higher
- CBVA Bear Guide (Recommended)
- Extensive experience of the British Columbia coast – from Victoria to Prince Rupert including Haida Gwaii
- Mechanical experience and aptitude
- Sailing experience on larger vessels and familiar with all operations: setting sails, docking, anchoring, raising anchor, mooring, and the operation of a windlass
- Experience handling zodiacs and kayaks
- Interest and knowledge of wildlife, conservation, and coastal history
- Tourism and hospitality experience
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to engage with guests while also ensuring crew feel supported

- Radio Operators Certificate – Marine (ROC-M or ROC-MC)
- Marine Emergency Duties (A2)
- Proficiency in Survival Craft (PSC – R)
- Marine Basic First Aid
- 20 Hours Wilderness First Aid (WFA or WFR) + CPR-C (can be obtained later)
- Commercial Bear Viewing Association Bear Guide Level 1 Guide (can be obtained later)
- Experience cooking/catering for groups up to 20
- Experience developing, purchasing for, and executing menu planning for groups
- Experience working in close quarters with a small team
- Ability to provide a varied, healthy, and delicious menu
- Customer service, hospitality, or guest-facing experience
- Strong communication with other team members
- Ability to adapt and adjust quickly to reflect the needs of the group
- Experience working on boats and the outdoors
- Experience working with galley systems (commercial freezers & ovens, generators)

- Knowledge of BC coastal mammals, marine mammals, intertidal species, birds, & plants – degree preferred
- Certifications (Hold or Obtain):
- Small Vessel Operators Permit (SVOP)
- Radio Operators Certificate – Marine (ROC-M or ROC-MC)
- Basic Safety (MED A1/A2) after 6 mos. of sea time
- Hours Wilderness First Aid (WFA or WFR) + CPR-C (can be obtained later)
- Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector (within last 3 years)
